Scotland's Property Sales Outpace UK, Led by Motherwell - property sales
Motherwell, Scotland, saw 86% of homes sell within three months in April-June 2026.

Scottish property markets are outpacing the rest of the UK in terms of sales speed, according to Zoopla data. In Motherwell, 86% of homes listed between April and June 2026 found buyers within three months, compared to just 16% in north west London, making Motherwell properties five times more likely to sell quickly.

Glasgow and Edinburgh also performed strongly, with 83% and 78% success rates, respectively. Zoopla attributes Scotland’s lead to affordability and the Home Report system, which includes a valuation and survey before listing. This system not only enhances transparency but also reduces the risk of unexpected issues, further bolstering buyer confidence.

This system boosts buyer confidence and encourages realistic pricing. In contrast, London and southern England face challenges due to higher prices and stamp duty costs, which deter potential buyers and prolong selling times.

Year-on-year, Glasgow saw an 8.5 percentage point increase in the proportion of homes finding a buyer within three months, followed by Preston at 8.2 percentage points and Motherwell at 5.2 percentage points. Conversely, Telford recorded the largest decline at 11.5 percentage points, with Halifax down 10.3 percentage points and Falkirk falling 10.1 percentage points. Richard Donnell, Zoopla’s Executive Director, advises sellers to price competitively, avoiding the mistake of basing prices on their next home’s cost, as this often leads to overvaluation and reduced buyer interest.
